CarpoolMatchNW.org currently does not use encryption, although it is protected through the City of Portland’s firewalls. However, we strongly suggest that you do not use a password which, if unlawfully obtained, would compromise your security on another system.

You are required to include a phone number but not required to release it to your matches. However, making your phone number available ensures that people without email can contact you.

VERIFYING ADDRESSES

Before you can submit your registration information, you must verify your origin and destination addresses. CarpoolMatchNW will do one of four things:

1. Find an exact match for your address
2. Give you a list of address ranges to choose from
3. Give you a list of intersections for the street you entered
4. Inform you that the address could not be found

When the map displays the correct location, just click on the link that says “Yes, accept address and continue”

1. Look at a list of intersections – just click on the third link “No, choose intersection by selecting nearest cross street.”
2. Close the window and re-enter the address or another address (see the tips below);

CarpoolMatchNW uses a GIS system to enter your address into the database. Users must verify their Origin and Destination in order to be entered into the match system. Here are some suggestions if you are having trouble verifying your address.

Spelling – check to be sure you’ve correctly spelled the name of the street and the city.

• Include the street type – “Ave,” “St,” “Pl,” “Way,” etc.
• Include the directional prefix or suffix (“NE,” “SW,” etc.)
• Do not write out the directionals.
• Do not insert a comma between the street name and the directional
• Spell out the street name and avoid abbreviations.
• Highway and Interstate work best when written out. (For example: 1234 Highway 101 N, NOT 1234 101N)
• State Road 99E , for example, does not work. Enter Highway 99E.
• Some streets change names along their length. Be sure you’ve used the right name at your location.
• Do not include apartment numbers

• Write out the word “and” instead of using “&” or a comma between streets
• Be sure the two streets really intersect. Some streets change names along their length. Be sure you’ve used the right name at your location.

New Developments or Streets: If the street or address is new, it may not be in the CarpoolMatchNW database yet. Try another address or intersection that is near to the one you’re trying to find.

You will be matched according to your travel preferences. You will receive a list of all the people who have the same travel days and times in priority order based on your travel preferences. The more flexible you are with your schedule, the more likely you are to receive matches.
